Beyond Barriers VR Study

The Beyond Barriers VR Study is a trailblazing research effort by Bliss VR Society, focused on understanding how virtual reality (VR) can transform the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities. We’re diving deep into this question with a mix of detailed surveys and personal, one-on-one interviews, gathering insights from people in care homes, assisted living centers, and community spaces. Our goal? To figure out exactly how VR impacts physical, emotional, and social well-being—both the good and the not-so-good.

We’re capturing real stories and solid data to get the full picture. On the positive side, VR might ease chronic pain through immersive escapes, lift spirits with vivid virtual adventures, or open up new ways to feel connected to the world. But we’re also looking at the challenges—like discomfort from wearing a headset too long, trouble with mobility making it hard to use, or tech glitches that get in the way. By listening to participants, we’ll learn what works and what doesn’t.

Participants will explore VR environments like peaceful nature scenes or engaging solo experiences, tailored to their interests and needs. Their feedback will show us how these digital worlds affect them—whether it’s a boost in mood or a stumble with usability. This isn’t just about collecting data; it’s about hearing from those who live these experiences every day.

What we find will shape the future of VR. The study’s results will guide us in creating technologies and programs that are easier to use, more inclusive, and truly empowering—perfectly in line with Bliss VR Society’s mission to enrich lives through immersive innovation. We want VR to be a tool that fits the people who need it most, not the other way around.

Ultimately, the Beyond Barriers VR Study is about breaking down walls—physical, social, and technological. It’s a step toward a world where VR doesn’t just entertain but heals, connects, and opens doors for seniors and people with disabilities. Through this work, we’re amplifying their voices and building a future where immersive tech brings real joy and possibility to everyone.
